Cruising south on Nicholasville Road from downtown Lexington, we pass under New Circle Road and by the Fayette Mall, a shoppers paradise. Go girls, go!
I haven't mentioned it elsewhere but one of the neat things about navigating around Lexington, particularly for the newcomer, is New Circle Road which does exactly that; it traverses a large circle around the City. So once you get used to it, this freeway is really very helpful in getting almost anywhere quickly.
Anyway, ten more miles down the road we approach the town of Nicholasville. Like several of the smaller cities around Lexington, Nicholasville is growing rapidly and has begun a major downtown development effort which, in time, will revamp a nine block center city area. One of the early projects, construction of a new city hall, was recently begun.
Nicholasville has many lovely homes in all styles and price ranges. One of the first things you will discover if you are new to this area, is how wonderfully affordable they are, particularly when compared with most other parts of the Country. In fact, Money Magazine recently named Nicholasville number one of 25 smaller cities in the United States with the most affordable homes. You will find home values to be very exciting. For starters, check out My Listings and spend some time Searching the MLS for your perfect home.
I've looked at some very nice homes here lately, one on Highpoint Drive near the Highpoint Golf Club and another very intriguing place on Overbrook Drive. There are many choices in the Nicholasville area, about 300 homes listed for sale in all settings, sizes, and price ranges.
The City has five golf courses, a number of parks with more on the way, and Clay's Ferry on the Kentucky River is just down the road. Here, several nature preserves make it a wonderful spot for fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities. Resorts along the river can also provide an entertaining day.
Up river a bit, you can see towering palisades of 200- 300 foot limestone cliffs, along both sides of the water. The Kentucky River Palisades extend for about 100 river miles, stretching from Clays Ferry in Madison County to Frankfort in Franklin County. Deep gorges, caves, and limestone outcroppings provide spectacular scenery and a variety of wildlife. This is a wonderful place to hike and enjoy the great outdoors.
